NETSAYI

Netsayi is a Zimbabwean singer-songwriter. Born a refugee in London during the Zimbabwean chimurenga (war against apartheid), she returned home after independence and was raised in Harare, the capital city.
She grew up in a musical household and the soundtrack to her childhood was diverse - traditional songs and local pop competing with reggae, soul and folk. All these genres have influenced Netsayi's own writing, a style she has christened 'Chimurenga Soul'.
'Chimurenga Soul' is also the title Netsayi gave her debut album, which was described as 'refreshingly, startlingly excellent' by Mojo magazine and 'one of the finest debuts of the year' by Robin Denselowe of The Guardian.
Netsayi is an acclaimed live performer who has headlined at many notable venues and festivals, both in the UK and worldwide. These include the London Jazz Festival, the London African Music Festival, the Amsterdam Roots Festival, Sauti Za Busara in Zanzibar, the Harare International Festival of the Arts and Kippies in Johannesburg.
Netsayi has opened for some of the most respected stars of Afro-jazz, soul, blues and hip hop (like Hugh Masekela, Omar, Boubacar Traore and K'Naan) and appeared live in session across the 8BC radio network (including a prestigious Radio I 'Peel session').
Netsayi is currently multi-tasking. She is touring in the UK and Europe, writing, recording and releasing new material. For up to the minute details of her exploits and whereabouts, see her myspace page.)
